This notice covers the Mad Librarian software and this website. Affection X, LLC, a California limited liability company, is responsible for both (the "controller", where that word applies), and can be reached at support@affection-x.com.
Mad Librarian runs on your computer. The only things it tells our server are what it needs to keep your licence working and to update itself. Nothing about your library, your content or how you use the app is ever sent. There is no account. This website sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads nothing from an advertising or tracking company.
Downloading the installer uses a link that carries a code tied to your order, so our server can tell that the download was bought. The link works for a day, and we keep no record of its use.
For each order: whether Paddle still counts it as paid, and the computers the licence has been activated on — fingerprint, computer name, app version, and when each was activated, last checked in and, if you released it, released. That is what lets a licence run on two computers at a time, lets you release one you no longer have, and lets us help when something goes wrong. Nothing else: no account, no usage data, and no log from your computer. We keep these records for as long as the licence exists and for two years after it ends, for support and to settle any dispute, and then delete them. When you write to us, we keep the correspondence for two years so that we can follow up.
To deliver and run the licence you bought (performance of our contract with you); to stop keys being shared and to protect the service from abuse (our legitimate interest, which the fingerprint and the computer limit serve); and to keep the records that tax and consumer law require (a legal obligation), which Paddle holds as Merchant of Record.
This website is hosted by Netlify; the licence and update server runs on Cloudflare. Like any web host, each sees your IP address as part of a request and may keep it in short-lived logs; our licence server also uses the address, without storing it, to turn away floods of requests. The site's typefaces are served from this site, not from a third party. The Mad Librarian page loads Paddle's checkout script so that the Buy button can open Paddle's checkout; anything Paddle records there is covered by Paddle's privacy notice, below. Our servers are in the United States. If you are in the European Union, the United Kingdom or elsewhere, your data is processed there under the data-processing terms, including the EU standard contractual clauses, that Cloudflare and Netlify provide.
Purchases are handled by Paddle.com, our Merchant of Record and an independent controller for the payment. Paddle collects the details needed to take payment, calculate tax and issue your receipt, under Paddle's privacy notice. We receive from Paddle your name, email address, country and order details, and use them only to deliver and support your licence and to meet our legal and tax obligations.
Nobody, apart from the providers named here, who process it on our behalf, and the authorities when the law requires it. We do not sell personal information, share it for advertising, or use it to profile anyone.
Wherever you live, you can ask us what we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to receive a copy of it, or to object to our processing it: write to support@affection-x.com and we will answer within a month. Deleting the activation records ends the licence on those computers, so we will confirm with you before doing it. If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you can also complain to your data-protection authority. If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act gives you the same rights; we do not sell or share personal information, and we will never treat you differently for using your rights.
Mad Librarian is not for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information about them.
When this notice changes, the date at the top changes with it. A change to what the app sends is also announced in the release notes of the update that makes it.
